how commissions work
If you're looking for a custom comic, art print or card, you're in the right place. Tell me your idea and we can make it happen.
STEP ONE
order
send me a message and we'll discuss what kind of drawing you want. you'll share any reference photos, we'll decide on the sizing of the final product and i'll confirm the pricing with you.
STEP TWO
messy draft
i'll send you a very, very rough black-and-white sketch. this step helps ensure we're on the same page about the general composition of your drawing. it won't be pretty, but it will have character.
STEP THREE
feedback
once you receive the messy draft, you can let me know if there are any edits you'd like me to make or any specific details you'd like me to include.
STEP FOUR
final draft
this is where the magic happens. i draw the final copy, incorporating all of the details from your original request and any feedback received along the way. i send a watermarked final draft to you.
STEP FIVE
payment and delivery
you'll pay me through a private shopify listing link. i will email you the final hi-res PDF for you to get printed at your leisure. you print it. your family and friends love it. your life is changed forever for the better.
frequently asked questions about custom work
What information do you need to get started?
Before contacting me about a commission, think about the following:
- What are you looking for? What kind of illustration or comic would you like to commission?
- How do you picture this coming to life in the real world? How large will it be?
- Is there a specific deadline you are working with?
- Do you have reference photos or videos you can send me?
How is my custom work delivered to me?
Unless otherwise discussed, I'll deliver your illustration as a hi-res digital file (usually a PDF). This way, you can print it whenever and wherever you like. Printing is generally very low-cost and quick, and there is likely a big stationary store (or, even better, a local printer) in your area who can do the job. This helps keep my costs down a bit and also eliminates the shipping process.
How much will it cost?
My general fee starts at $150 CAD per illustration, but every project is different. A simple commission (for example, a single drawing featuring one person or animal with minimal background) is priced lower than something more complicated (for example, a 6-panel comic or a single illustration featuring 4-5 people).
If you are interested in a comic, the fee is about $150 per panel, but again, this can vary. I estimate based on the time I will spend on the project, and I'm as transparent as possible when it comes to letting you know how much things will cost up front. Once I have a better idea of what you're looking for, I will be able to give you an estimate! Also, if you have a specific budget you’re working with, let me know and we’ll figure it out.
I'm not a big fan of the general look of hialyssacomics. Can you mimic another artist's style for my commission?
No :)
